K. Christopher Jayaram sworn in as 83rd Kansas Supreme Court justice

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) – The newest Kansas Supreme Court Justice was sworn on Friday, Oct. 2.

On July 13, Kansas Governor Laura Kelly appointed K. Christopher Jayaram to the position.

Jayaram has been a District Judge in Johnson County since 2021.

During the ceremony, several justices discussed Jayaram’s previous accomplishments and his dedication to Kansas.

Jayaram spoke about his journey to this accomplishment, what it means to him, and what he hopes to accomplish in the position.

“I am ready to put in the hard work,” Jayaram said. “Anyone who knows me can attest that I relish chances to roll up my sleeves and do the work whatever that may be. That will not change. I know I have much to learn and I look forward to taking on new challenges and doing my best to get it right based upon what the law and what the facts at hand dictate.”

Jayaram is the 83rd Justice in the Kansas Supreme Court.

He is filling the vacant spot following Chief Justice Marla Luckert’s retirement.
