They keep politics and political influence out of the courts, and hold politicians accountable when they go too far.

Marla Luckert
Chief Justice

Chief Justice Marla Luckert is a fourth generation Kansan. She is a graduate of Washburn University and Law School in Topeka, and has served as a judge and justice in the Capital City for nearly 30 years. Justice Luckert’s history of engagement with her community is impressive, with a long list of memberships, awards, and charitable activities. Among the accolades, Justice Luckert is the second woman to be appointed to the Kansas Supreme Court, and the first woman to be appointed chief judge of a Kansas judicial district.
Justice Luckert will be on the ballot for retention this year.
Eric S. Rosen

Justice Eric Rosen is a Topeka native. He is a graduate of the University of Kansas and Washburn University School of Law and has served as a judge and justice for nearly 30 years. Prior to his judicial experience, Justice Rosen maintained a private practice, as well as numerous teaching roles, including at the Menninger School of Law and Psychiatry and his alma mater, Washburn University. Justice Rosen’s community and professional engagement record speak to his commitment to all Kansans.
Dan Biles

Justice Dan Biles is a native of El Dorado. He is a graduate of Kansas State University and worked as an Associated Press reporter while earning his degree from Washburn University School of Law. Prior to his appointment to the Supreme Court, Justice Biles was an assistant attorney general, attorney for the Kansas State Board of Education, and general counsel for Kansas Turnpike Authority. He continues to serve as a visiting professor at Kansas State University.
Justice Biles will be on the ballot for retention this year.
Caleb Stegall

Justice Caleb Stegall is a Lawrence native. He is a graduate of Geneva College and the University of Kansas School of Law. Prior to his appointment to the Supreme Court, Justice Stegall served as a county attorney in Jefferson County, chief counsel to the governor, and as a judge on the Kansas Court of Appeals. He continues to serve as an adjunct professor at the University of Kansas School of Law.
Justice Stegall will be on the ballot for retention this year.
Evelyn Z. Wilson

Justice Evelyn Z. Wilson is a native of Smith Center, Kansas. She is a graduate of Bethany College and Washburn University School of Law. Prior to her appointment to the court, she was a district judge and then chief judge in Shawnee County, where she helped spearhead the development of the Shawnee County Crisis Intervention Team. She also taught as an adjunct professor at Washburn University School of Law and was in private practice for 19 years.
Justice Wilson will be on the ballot for retention this year.
Keynen “KJ” Wall Jr.

Justice Keynen Wall is a native of Scott City, Kansas. He is a graduate of Kansas State University, where he was a national college debate champion and All-American; the University of Minnesota; and the University of Kansas School of Law. Prior to his appointment to the court, he worked in private practice as well as special projects counsel and deputy general counsel to the Kansas Supreme Court. At the time of his appointment, Justice Wall represented county hospitals, rural healthcare providers, and community mental health centers throughout Kansas.
Justice Wall will be on the ballot for retention this year.
Melissa Taylor Standridge

Justice Melissa Taylor Standridge is a Lawrence native. She is a graduate of the University of Kansas and University of Missouri – Kansas City School of Law, where she was the editor-in-chief of the UMKC Law Review and Chief Justice of the Appellate Advocacy Program. Prior to her appointment to the court, Justice Standridge was a private practice attorney, counsel to two federal judges, and served as a judge on the Court of Appeals for nearly 13 years. Her impressive list of professional and civic engagements are a testament to her character and commitment to the people of Kansas. She is a foster and adoptive parent to numerous kids.
Justice Standridge will be on the ballot for retention this year.
